PROJECTS

Week 1:

At the beginning of the class, we settled into groups consisting of people from different courses to get ready for the module projects. My team members includes:

- Kelly
- Moey
- Nurin
- Joe (myself)

Our very first idea started off with Amaterasu, which is believed to be a very important model in the culture of Japan during ancient times. Amaterasu, the goddess of sun has made a huge impact on Japan such as their respect to the sun, as called by the name of the country itself "The Land of the Rising Sun" and the red circle in their flag which represents the sun.

Week 2:

Today we had a consultation and discussed our proposal with Mr. Asrizal. He mentioned that our plans and research yet to be dug deep in research and told us to gather much more information and analysis for another consultation next week.

Week 3:

This week we presented our proposal slides to Mr. Charles and Ms. Anis as Mr. Asrizal wasn't around the campus. They both mentioned that our slides are interesting with lots of possibilities for the final product, however more research needs to be done.

Week 4:

As we received the feedback from our lecturers, this week our group planned what to do in Tokyo and discussed the topics that we should focus on. In the end, we chose 3 main topics to dig deep into, the topics are: Anime influences in Japan, Mecha culture and Cosplays. The original ideas of these topics are involved from the concept of "Henkan" which means metamorphosis or transformation.

Week 5:

We went on the trip to Japan this week to do research and collect findings.

Week 6:

As we collected lots of finding in Japan, we compiled everything into slides. The slides are presented to every lecturers as shown below:

Week 7 - 9:

We spent most of the times figuring out what to do during the last few weeks. We couldn't come up with much ideas on the first week, and with final projects from different modules, not much progress was made.

Week 8 - 9:

In the end, our group decided to make a building model in which represents the futuristic cities in Japan. The idea was born by the topic of cyber in which have made a huge influence to the architectural transformation in buildings of Japan.

During these two weeks, we gathered together and divided workload to work on with the final product. The final outcome is as below in this final compilation slide:

Here's a quick glimpse of our final outcome:

Final outcome: before and After UV lights.

Personal reflection:

During the beginning of this project, our group had an extremely terrible start as we were all confused and lost from the objectives of this module. Not too much progress was visible which had heavily worried me for the entire month. As time pass, as my group mates and I start to get to know each other more, things quickly changed. We start to communicate more and make appointments to have meetings regarding different topics, and despite everyone having different deadlines for various submissions, we still made it up to support each other from the start.

In the end, I am really grateful to experience a very first trip to Japan along with my friends and classmates from different courses. Things turned upside down in a matter of days when stressful moments could be learned to be enjoyable.

It was really an eye-opening module that helped me learned the huge importance of cultures and its possibilities in future development despite it being from the past.
